Chat can't be read

Whenever I go into a stream starting around an hour ago I get this error “BetterTTV encountered an error reading chat. The developer has been sent a log of this action. Please try clearing your cookies and cache.” I’ve cleared my blasted cache and cookies twice and it still gives the error. Also I can send messages that others can see (streamer replied to the message I sent) but I can’t see the message myself.

Just started getting the same error. Cleared cookies/cache multiple times as well.

I signed up just to second (third?) this. I took the extra step of trying in both Chrome and Firefox and both encountered the same issue. Cache and cookies were cleared on both during tests. Chat began to work again after I disabled the extension.

Cleared Cache and Cookies. Still getting the same problem. Save us NightDev.

And now it’s working for me after I disabled it for a few minutes, then re-enabled it sigh

We are still working to make BetterTTV compatible with changes Twitch is making to the emoticon system. During this time, the following features will be broken:

  • Twitch Chat Emotes (the emotes list plugin by Ryan Chatham)
  • Anti-Prefix Completion
  • Hovering over emotes for the command and channel
  • BetterTTV Emoticons
  • JTV Monkey Emoticons

I will update here when all of these issues are addressed.

Thanks for the responce, in the meanwhile I have a question which is not happening only to me. Nightbot (idk if any other bot does that too) spams with emotes even on auto replies, here’s a couple screenshots from me and others too

Is this nightbot’s fault or bttv’s issue? On mirc I don’t see any emotes spam, just the normal text

If you’re still seeing emotes attached to some messages, clear your cookies and cache.

It’s really sad. Can it be returned? It was really easy and comfortably to use.
Autocomplete for all emotes would be great.

As there’s not a list of emoticon sets associated with emotes available within Twitch’s on-site interface, we have had to scrap the feature. We could parse their raw API to recreate the list, but have chosen rather to just discontinue the feature as it’s not something widely used (according to analytics).

It is possible we might allow you to autocomplete emoticons, but that would require an overhaul to how we handle tab completion for usernames already.
