Bot for shared emotes?

I’m new to all of this.
Does it take awhile before you can use the shared emotes?
Or do you need a bot for the emotes to work?

Once you upload an emote to your channel (and it gets approved), you can use it in your channel immediately. No bots are required, just the BetterTTV extension.
