I tried searching to no avail possibly because I am newb.
But I want to make NightBot welcome new subscribers in the chat. Is there a way to do this?

Subscriber/Follower alerts are not possible/supported with default nightbot functionality. One could be made using the nightbot api but there is no publicly available api to do such a thing.
