How do I add a currency?

I want to make a currency that will count up for every message the user makes. I’v seen things like this used, like !catnip and !fishsticks, and I’m wondering how I could replicate that

Nightbot doesn’t support a currency system. There are lots of other Twitch bots that do this (Revlo, Streamlabs Chatbot, Vivbot, etc).
