In the examples there is no mention if nightbot can whitelist subdomains or not.
No, a basic link white-list only allows a single domain.
You can allow sub domains adding it to the list like:
imgur.com
example.imgur.com
or as a regex to allow all subdomains
~/(\w+.)?imgur.com/i
